Want to get that soft pretty glow without looking oily or having shimmery powder all over your face? Read on for some tips and tricks to get that envy-worthy glow.
Exfoliate with a chemical peel/fruit enzyme serum
Sounds scary but it actually does work and it's less damaging then manual exfoliating beads that can create micro tears in the skin.
After cleansing regularly use a chemical peel (derived from fruit enzymes) like lactic, malic, glycolic, salicylic or citric acid to refine and resurface your skin. It will gently polish away dead skin cells and leave your skin smooth and glowing - don't skip this step! I like these ones by Dr Dennis Gross and Drunk Elephant.
Tone
Rebalance your skin with a good toner - try the new one by REN found here. Azelaic acid brightens the skin while lactic acid and willowbark extract tone and soften skin texture. I love the mild citrus smell and it's great at getting rid of any makeup or pollutants leftover after cleansing.
By the end of these steps your skin should feel tight and smooth. This is the basic idea behind glowing skin. You need the skin to be this smooth and tight texture so natural light can bounce off it. But before you stop here don't forget you still need to hydrate your skin with a moisturiser (and serum if you have very dehydrated skin).
Hydrate & moisturise your skin
Next spritz a hydrating mist on your skin. This will help to reintroduce some hydration and soften your skin for your moisturiser (and, if needed serum) you are going to apply next.
Use a water based moisturiser which is light and still softening on the skin. It's great for oily skin types. As you know I love The Water Cream by Tatcha (check it out here) and for drier skin I love Dr Dennis Vitamin C Deep Cream (found here). If you have very dry skin I also recommend using a nice face oil like jojoba or marula - try these ones by Josie Maran and Drunk Elephant.
Now your skin is tight, smooth and radiant! Even if you choose to wear foundation after this your glowing skin will shine through. Just don't mattify it with powder! Use a setting spray to set instead!
